Tigerton Server Processor Released by Intel, Tough times for Barcelona ahead
AMD's most awaited server processor Barcelona is going to be released on September 10 and Intel has already done the damage with the release of its new Quad-Core processors code-named Tigerton. According to Intel, the new processor has shown significant improvement over its two and four core processors built for single and two processor servers. The Tigertone is compatible with the Four way servers and is available in six versions starting from $850 upto around $2,000. The processor is available in 5 speed verions i.e. 2.93GHz, 2.4GHz, 2.13GHz, 1.86GHz, and thee least 1.6GHz. The 2.4GHz processor is further made available in two versions of 8MB and 6MB cache. The Tigertone quad-core server processors have 1,066MHz line connecting the cores internally in such a way that there is minimum latency due to speed difference between memory and the processors. Intel's master stroke has surely made the life of Barcelona much harder than it would have expected much before its birth.
